Environmental Management in the Brazilian Air Force

Abstract

The purpose of the research here presented was to establish whether there is a relation between the size of an Air Force Station and its level of environmental investment. It is classified as descriptive as to its objective, and as a sample based survey as to its design. First, basic information and ideas regarding environmental management were presented, situating the Brazilian Air Force in the context. Next, the methods used were described: to evaluate the size of the Stations, the number of employees was used, what was obtained by applying a form at the finance sectors involved; as for the environmental investment level, a questionnaire based on social responsibility indicators was used. Then the theoretical reference that conducted the study was verified, according to which large companies invest more in the protection of the environment than small and medium ones. Another chapter presented the answers received through the collecting instruments, taking the opportunity to justify the importance of the selected items. Last, according to the information collected, the Stations were classified as small, medium or large, ranked according to the score achieved through the questionnaire, and the results were compared according to the theoretical reference. It was concluded that the size of an Air Force Station does not affect its level of environmental investment. The sampling universe was the Afonsos field in the year 2007.
