Abstract

The article addresses biosecurity in the context of the Air Force Field Hospital (HCAMP), focusing on preventing HIV/AIDS contagion among healthcare professionals (HP). The introduction provides a historical overview of individual protection measures from ancient Egypt to modern standards established by the CDC. The study aims to identify risk factors and bioprotection practices at HCAMP, comparing them with current standards and highlighting military peculiarities that may increase HP vulnerability.
The methodology includes bibliographic and documentary research and the application of questionnaires to 21 HPs, as well as field observation. The results indicate a moderate degree of occupational HIV contagion risk (42%), similar to conventional hospitals. Adherence to biosecurity practices is insufficient, with notable issues in the inadequate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the practice of recapping needles.
The article concludes that despite adverse conditions, it is essential to implement preventive protocols and continuous education programs in bioprotection to minimize risks. New studies are recommended to improve safety practices in field hospitals.
