The article discusses the strategic and scientific importance of Antarctica, highlighting the role of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) in operations in the region. Antarctica is rich in natural resources and has significant geopolitical relevance, especially concerning South America. The Antarctic Treaty, signed in 1959, establishes guidelines for scientific research and the preservation of the continent, being fundamental for international cooperation. Brazil, which became a consultative member of the treaty in 1975, has sought to increase its presence in the region, although the FAB's participation has so far been limited to air transport. The article emphasizes the need for a more assertive policy regarding Antarctica, so that Brazil can claim rights over the exploration of its resources and ensure its presence in decisions related to the Brazilian Antarctic Program.
