Abstract

The study aims to evaluate the effects of the adoption of some measures of intervention in reducing the clinical occurrences caused by transmeridian flights. The data was collected in a Study Travel of the Air Force Academy Cadets to China, which had a total of 474 passengers who suffered transposition of 11 time zones in a short period of time. During the trip, the appearance of clinical occurences related to dissincronose were observed. The clinical occurrences during the trips in 2005 and 2006 were compared with those of 2007, when intervention was made with the group before the mission. The intervention consisted of clinical examinations prior to the mission, an enlightening lecture on the effects of long-duration flight, the adequacy of schedules and the quality of meals. From the data analysis and comparison with the literature it was concluded that the clinical occurrences presented are compatible with the action of dissincronose and that the measures adopted have contributed positively to reducing the clinical manifestations caused by transmeridian flights.
