The article "A Small History of a Giant of the Skies" recounts a pivotal event in the history of air transport that took place on March 31, 1931, when a FOKKER F-10 trimotor from TWA suffered a tragic accident during a flight. Onboard was Knute Rokne, a renowned football coach, heading to Hollywood to supervise the production of a film about his team. The accident, which resulted in the destruction of the aircraft and the death of all occupants, sparked a wave of criticism towards the aviation industry, particularly TWA, leading to a rigorous review of safety practices. The tragedy not only impacted the company's reputation but also prompted significant changes in safety standards and aircraft construction, marking the beginning of a new era in commercial aviation.
