Situational Leadership in Composite Air Operations

Abstract

The use of composite air operations consists of the concentration of means under unified coordination in certain air space, with the objective of obtaining temporary superiority on the enemy. In order to provide more safety in the operations and unit of command in the accomplishment of the mission, the responsibility for the planning and execution of the flight is attributed to a pilot, denominated Mission Commander. Now, to reach that qualification, the pilots are formed without the approach of any theoretical model of leadership, and the expected final result depends on the behaviors adopted by the leader during the process. In order to contribute in the support to the doctrinaire evolution, the research had the objective of verifying the applicability of Situational Leadership’s Theory for the conduction of composite air operations. The operational aspects of the flight in packages are confronted with the concepts that indicated the situational leadership as base of sustentation of the work. The result of the study reveals the application possibility of Situational Leadership’s Theory to the composed aerial missions and the importance of the theoretical support for larger efficiency in the enforcement of the aerial power.
