Effectiveness of the Speciality of Dental Implants in the New BAFL Hospital

The objective of this study is to determine the impact of the effectiveness of the dental implants specialty on the oral health status of the military who will receive treatment in the new Florianópolis Air Base Hospital (BAFL). To achieve this aim, documentary and field researches were done, and also some extra readings about Implantology. Through the DMFT it was verified the prevalence of cavities, missing and filled teeth in a sample of 167 airmen and air traffic controllers. It was evaluated the amount of tooth loss, specifically in 389 military on duty and on reserve. After the advent of dental implants, and the discovery of osseointegration, new rehabilitators aspects seek the replacement of conventional prostheses for implant retained dentures, optimizing the technical and aesthetic of these rehabilitations, as well as changing the world oral panorama. It was concluded that the inclusion of dental implants in the new BAFL hospital will benefit many military personnel who need to restore missing teeth and, thus, increasing their general and oral health, contributing to a better life quality.
