A close contact with the consumer, listening to their aspirations and trends is undoubtedly an important element in the hands of those who decide. So far, the countries that have been performing best in the innovation effort have been those that encourage substantial freedom for entrepreneurs, creating a climate of support and encouragement. If it is possible to accept the proposition that innovation is the spring of the progress of organizations, it can easily be inferred that progress becomes linked to the central idea of freedom. Aiming for absolute technological independence is naturally utopian. However, the internal development of technology even creates better conditions for national progress, substantially improving the quality of life of the nation. In short, in the coming decades, a greater technological development in Brazilian industry will depend on the possibility of finding ways for a fair measure between import and internal creation of technology and for cooperation between the main agents involved - the government and national and foreign companies, each bearing a part of the costs necessary to achieve this goal.
