The article "Political Ambivalence of the Ministry of Defense" examines the complexity of the relationships between the Armed Forces and democracy in Brazil, particularly during the constituent process. The author discusses the misconception that the Armed Forces pose a threat to democracy, highlighting that the military does not seek political power but rather loyalty to the President of the Republic. The ambivalence of the constituents is addressed, where contradictory feelings about military presence in politics create internal conflict. The text also mentions the popular mobilization that led to the New Republic and the National Constituent Assembly, emphasizing the need for a solid and pluralistic democracy. The author warns of the dangers of a Manichean view that opposes democracy and the Armed Forces, suggesting that this ambivalence may lead to harmful political decisions.
