Brazilian Cryptographic: Confidentiality in Information Algorithm

Abstract

The article discusses the need for a national cryptographic algorithm to ensure the security of strategic information within the Amazon Surveillance System (SIVAM). Established to monitor the Brazilian Legal Amazon, SIVAM faces challenges due to the use of an imported algorithm, HCA-373, which is not entirely reliable as its vulnerabilities are known to a private company. The proposal to develop a Brazilian cryptographic algorithm aims to ensure national sovereignty and protect sensitive information, especially in a context of increasing international interest in the region. The article analyzes the importance of cryptography in data protection and highlights the need for a system that does not rely on foreign technologies. It also mentions the subsystems of SIVAM, such as data acquisition and information processing, emphasizing the relevance of secure communication systems. The conclusion suggests that despite the implementation costs, the benefits of a national algorithm outweigh the disadvantages, making the proposal viable and necessary for Brazil's security.
