Abstract

This study aimed to identify how nanotechnology is being deployed in space projects within the Aeronautics Command (Brazilian Air Force), in comparison with what is being accomplished by other space agencies. It was conducted a study of the Space Power Theory, in order to support the scientific work and validate the need for technological innovation in this sector. It was explained what nanotechnology is and how it is being applied to space projects in the United States of America (USA), European Union (EU) and Brazil. Finally, it was analyzed the implementation strategy of nanotechnology in space projects adopted by these countries and investments. It was evident the importance that NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and ESA (European Space Agency) assign to the area of Science, Technology and Innovation in a constant search for new technologies in order to maintain military supremacy in the world and increase the conquest of space supremacy. It was concluded that prioritizing the control of sensitive technologies for the Defense and Space, will be possible for Brazil to gain status as a nation technologically self-sufficient in space projects.
