Abstract

This article aims to make a historic flyby of an educational institution founded in 1960, the Brigadier General Newton Braga School (CBNB), located on Governor’s Island in the city of Rio de Janeiro, traditionally recognized as its high quality in education, whose history is intrinsically linked to the History of Education and the Brazilian aviation. The idea of this study came out in the middle of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the school , a period which has been full of celebrations and meanings, evoking memories of facts and people, that have build the history of this institution connected to the personal and professional history of those who have passed over these 50 years. Aiming at this goal, the study makes a contrast between tradition and modernity, which the primary element is a high quality education in one of the most traditional institutions of military education, linked directly.
to the Third Air Force Command (COMAR III). This study makes possible a movement of thinking about history and memory of this institution,
aiming at systematization and organization of records from this memory as well as related local memory to the memory of Education. This study used
documents collected in the file of III COMAR describing part of the trajectory of the school since its foundation, the sources of its memory file, and
personal accounts from former students and teachers, as well as current students and teachers of this institution
