Psychological Operations: a critical analysis on the 9/11 terrorist attacks

Psychological Operations (PsiOp) is a type of use of a force, not necessarily armed, to achieve specific objectives through behavioral influence techniques. Considering the attacks of September 11, 2001 as a theoretical framework, the objective of this bibliographic review study was to analyze facts, subliminal or otherwise, related to this episode, and which denoted the use of PsiOp. This analysis aimed to increase the reader's level of awareness regarding the variety of information available to him/her, especially during a conflict. It was concluded that both terrorists and Americans had strong support from the media so that PsiOp techniques could enable them to achieve their goals in front of the target audiences. In order to assert their will, both used the creation of myths that had their emergence favored by the heightening of the spirit of those involved. It was a manipulation of the truth favoring the emergence of a cause that could justify the actions to be taken.
